Is terahertz the same as an X-ray?

  • X-rays are ionizing: enough energy to remove electrons from atoms.[3]
  • Microwaves, infrared and visible light are non-ionizing; they lack that energy.[3][4]
  • Terahertz sits between microwaves and infrared and is non-ionizing.[1]

Different waves behave differently: X-rays pass through the body, while terahertz stays near the surface.[1]
