Short answer: warmth feels comforting to many people, and non-ionizing energy such as infrared and microwaves can heat substances, so heat is an easy, familiar way to deliver a comfortable sensation.[1][2]
- Heat is a known effect. Non-ionizing radiation "can heat substances", and intense, direct exposure can cause tissue damage from heat, which is why use limits matter.[1]
- Comfort, not treatment. Many visitors tell us they find a gentle stream of warm air relaxing. That is their experience, not a medical result.[7]
- Why limits and controls exist: our devices have settings, timers or auto shut-off, and the Classic 3.0 is limited to up to 45 minutes continuous, then let it cool fully.
- Use care on numb skin or with a medical condition, and follow the manual.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor before using heat if you have numbness, diabetes, an implant or are pregnant.
