Short answer: back pain while driving usually comes from staying in one position for hours, which is the main strain. Break up the trip and set up the seat well.
Back pain while driving: what to know
- Stop every hour or two to walk and stretch.
- Seat set-up: sit back fully, knees slightly lower than hips, wheel close enough that your arms stay a little bent. A small rolled towel at the lower back is a common tip.
- Warmth after the drive for stiffness.[1]
When to see a doctor
See a GP if the pain is severe, spreads into the legs, or doesn't improve after a few weeks.[1]
